Evie vs. the boob

There are many, many things that I love about being a mom. Nursing being very near the top of the list. There is something so wonderful about knowing that you grew this baby, and are now completely sustaining their life from your body. It allows for quiet time together, a chance to stare deep into those beautiful eyes, and now that she's older, some humor and entertainment, as well.

Evie likes to do battle with the boob. It often starts with her solidly grabbing a fistful of flesh with her meaty little hand and clamping on. She may nurse for a bit, but soon the games begin. She'll pull off, give my nipple a little smile and dive mouth first into it, similar to that crocodile attacking that poor animal on the Planet Earth series.

If she is feeling particularly stealthy, she'll hold my boob off to the side, glance at it through the corner of her eye, run her mouth along my breast until she has successfully snuck up on it, and slurps my nipple up like a noodle.

Sometimes she'll pop on and off, making a vocal aaaaarrrrrraaaaawwwwwrrrrr every time she catches it. Then this must crack her shit up because she'll start giggling so hard that she loses the latch. Prompting another opportunity to stalk the nipple. This ritual frequently ends with her laying her head gently on my breast and simply sighing.

As proud as I will be of Evie when she is ready to wean, it will break my heart to not share these moments with her again. And knowing that this is probably our last kid, never sharing something similar with another infant again.

My dear daughters, thank you so very much for giving me the chance to experience this act of love in my life. You have taught me to slow down and how to give of myself with complete love. May you one day experience this with your own children.

  1. I laughed hysterically at this. Marcus does the same damn thing. I read about all these women on the birth board whose kids gently pat their breasts or stroke them and I'm like waaaah?! Mine get punched, attacked, and manhandled. The worst is the giant grin while he bites down.
