Run away

There I sat, stewing in anger, afraid to move for fear that I would jump across the room and wring her neck.

Layla woke up in a decent mood this morning, but it went very wrong, very quickly. In the span of about 5 minutes, she spit and let it run down her chin, pulled a few hairs out of her head, bit her "nails" that have already been chewed down to the quick, peed on herself while she lay on the ground, bit me, and took her spit and wiped it all over the wall.

You can imagine the range of emotions that I burned through during this ordeal, including a healthy dose of rage, but ending with me flabbergasted, looking at her and asking "Layla, what is WRONG with you?"

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with her? I know a lot of it is the temper tantrums of a two year old, but I also think she has a touch of crazy in her as well.

I literally couldn't speak to her because I didn't trust what I would do or say.

And then, in a matter of seconds, it all stopped and I had my daughter back. She was still rocking an attitude, but she seemed lucid and in control again, even if she was still a little shit.

  1. Sounds like that was very tough, on you both! I know this sounds crazy, but some people believe that specific coloring in food can cause an “allergic reaction” in children that affects their behavior. I think red or blue, certain numbers. I don't know much about this, or your daughter, but the thought came to me as I read your post. Silence was probably your best tactic. Not sure if I would have lasted as long as you did. Hang in there.
